Two Great Pyrenees Show How They Are Built for Snow: 'Powdered Donuts'

while most dogs will change their mind about going outside when it's cold and snowy, Great Pyrenees were born for this weather, and they enjoy every single minute of it.

A couple of Pyrenees from Door County, Wisconsin, have melted hearts on the internet after a video of them buried in the snow, enjoying a blast of cold weather went viral on social media earlier this week.

The clip, shared on Instagram on Tuesday by their owners under the username @3pyrsinapod, shows the pups having the best time in the snow, explaining that they're not cold because their fur protects them.

A message shared along with the video says: "Dreaming on powdered donut weather. They're Great Pyrenees and they love this kind of weather. Great Pyrenees have a double coat which keeps them warm in the winter and cool in the summer."

The post was captioned: "Hoping for powdered donut weather tomorrow."

The owners told Newsweek that they actually have three Great Pyrenees and a Great Pyrenees mix, but only two of them, Eeyore and Olaf, are featured in the viral clip.

She said: "Our three Great Pyrenees love winter, especially when we have 'powdered donut' weather. Since we work from home, they go in and out as much as they please[...]Great Pyrenees have a double coat which helps regulate their body temperature. It keeps them nice and warm in the winter and helps keep them cool in the summer.

"On days where it's too cold or too warm, we do limit their time outside. Thankfully, we live in a place where we have gorgeous winters and mild summers—being directly on the lake helps a lot in the summer. So no matter what season, they get to spend as much time outside as they want.

"However, our Great Pyrenees mix doesn't have a double coat. He loves playing in the snow, but he's not out there long enough to turn into a 'powdered donut like his brothers. He prefers being warm and cozy inside."

Moreover, she added that her pups love being outside but they also love snuggling on the couch. "They're definitely lap dogs!"

Not all dogs feel temperatures the same way. According to PetMD, dogs with thick, double-layered coats tend to be the most cold-tolerant, like Great Pyrenees or Siberian huskies. The breeds originate from cold places, therefore they thrive in the weather.

However, dogs with exceptionally thin coats, like the Basenji and Xoloitzcuintli, may suffer in the cold and tend to do better when it's warmer outside. Their size also impacts how resistant to extreme temperatures they are, in fact, smaller dogs tend to get colder faster than bigger dogs in the same weather.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across Instagram. It has so far received over 69,132 likes on the platform.

One Instagram user, @m_a_w_h_22, commented: "I would love to experience that level of relaxation and comfort." And @irishtexan1 said: "How can you have a favorite with these 4..all so very special."

Another Instagram user, @dash_and_furrious joked after seeing the snow-covered pups: "I don't see anything besides a pile of snow here, am I missing something." And @Lazbap said: "Just here to tell you your powdered donuts bring me a lot of joy."

Commenter @Debrarauschert added: "Our [Great Pyrenees] loved the snow. Every walk took forever because she would stop, drop, and roll every ten feet."
