Who Is David Schultz? Mystery as Missing Iowa Man's Truck Discovered

Law enforcement officials in Iowa are looking to locate David Schultz, a missing trucker, after his semi-truck was found abandoned earlier this week.

Multiple law enforcement agencies including the Sac County Sheriff's Office and Lake View Police Department are continuing to search for Schultz who was last seen early Tuesday morning and has not been heard from since.

Newsweek has reached out to the Sac County Sheriff's office and the Lake View Police Department via email for comment.

Schultz and his truck were initially reported missing after he missed an appointment to pick up a load of hogs from Eagle Grove and was expected to deliver them to Sac City, according to The Storm Lake Times Pilot. The truck was later discovered in the Sac City area.

Schultz is a 53-year-old husband and father from Wall Lake, Iowa. He is described as a white male weighing 180 pounds and is 5′11.″ He also has brown hair and brown eyes.

Schultz's wife, Sarah Schultz, told local news channel KCAU 9 on Wednesday that she last saw her husband on Monday around 7:30 p.m. before he left their home to go to work. His wife said Schultz was wearing Wrangler jeans and cowboy boots. She couldn't remember what shirt he was wearing, adding that she believes he was wearing a Peterbilt hat.

"The next day I hadn't heard from him, which is not unusual. I don't know when he's loading and unloading. The guy he hauls for knocked at my door saying, 'Hey we can't find David. Have you heard from him?' He said he didn't unload the hogs. I said, 'So he's loaded?' And that alerts me right there cause he would never pull over to sleep load, he just wouldn't," Sarah Schultz told KCAU 9.

According to The Storm Lake Times Pilot, law enforcement used thermal planes as well as a K9 unit to search for Schultz throughout Tuesday night.

However, the investigation into Schultz disappearance continued into Wednesday as the Sac County Sheriff's Office is asking the public's help by asking property owners in northeastern Sac County to check their own properties and outbuildings for anything out of the ordinary.

"At this time we are asking Sac County property owners in the northeastern portion of Sac County to check their own properties and outbuildings for anything out of the ordinary. If anything out of the ordinary is observed please do not disturb the immediate vicinity and let items remain in place before contacting the Sac County Communications Center," the sheriff's office said in a press release.

Schultz's wife said that her husband is a good truck driver and is known for his work ethic. Worried about the unusual circumstances, she added that she wanted to thank everyone who has been helping in the search.

"I know there's a lot of people searching for him and I'm so thankful that he has so many friends and the truckers have a strong community and their all. I've gotten so many messages and so many people are sharing the story. I just hope he turns up soon," she told KCAU 9.

Meanwhile, local law enforcement officials say they plan to expand the search area and continue their investigation in the coming days.

"We greatly appreciate the outpouring of community support and willingness to assist with the continuing search for David Schultz. We ask that those who are searching their properties to be cognizant not to continue searches on the properties of others. Law enforcement will be continuing to expand the search area and continue this investigation in the coming days," Sac County Sheriff's Office said in a press release.
